The City of Portland, Office of Transportation, has several useful guides for navigating your way around the diverse neighborhoods that make up Portland, Oregon.   Click on the links below for more information:

Walk Score helps you rate housing based upon its proximity to public transportation, shopping, parks, and schools.   The site has a pretty slick and intuitive user interface and utilizes google maps for displaying results.  Read more at Finding walkable neighborhoods.

Metro's livable streets program provides tools to design safe and healthy streets. Walking for short distances is an attractive option for most people when safe and convenient pedestrian facilities are available. Pedestrian elements such as benches, curb extensions, marked street crossings, landscaping and wide planting strips, combined with adequate sidewalks and curb ramps, make walking an attractive, convenient and safe mode of travel.
