Improving Seattle Transportation

Washington gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi is trying to win votes from the incumbent Gov. Chris Gregoire on the topic of infrastructure improvements. Gregoire supports removing Seattle's waterfront highway by 2012 and will decide after the election whether she supports replacing it with a tunnel, surface street or elevated highway. Rossi supports a tunnel. Rossi blames the Gregoire administration for the sad state of Washington's transportation infrastructure and has his own $15 billion plan to complete nine major projects across the state.

Gregoire blasts his plan and boasts of the completed Washington transportation projects during her governorship, including the new Tacoma Narrows bridge. Gregoire has benefited from gas tax increases that funded her road projects. Rossi wants to pay for his plan with a sales diversion from car sales, saying gas taxes aren't dependable. Gregoire claims she is environmentally friendly and that Rossi just wants to pave over everything.
