City Hall Wants YOUR Opinion
Transportation Commissioner Sam Adams is turning to the citizens of Portland for input on possible transit projects and improvements around the city, and he's looking to get as many people involved as he can. Throughout all of September, Adams will be hosting a plethora of open houses in neighborhoods all across town in an attempt to get the opinions of Portlanders on how they want the City to spend monies from a new financing plan Adams and the rest of the City Council is proposing. The financing plan, headed for the voters on the 2008 ballot, would raise revenue by increasing gas taxes in the city, or possibly by levying a street maintenance fee that would be charged against properties. Adams says that raising the funds at a city level is needed because the Oregon Legislature did not pass a gas tax increase in the last session, a tax that has historically paid for most street maintenance in Portland.
