Livestrong Challenge 2007

The Livestrong Challenge is back in Portland, and this year, like always, promises to be a great ride for a great cause.  The event, put on by the Lance Armstrong Foundation, kicks off September 29th at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, with registration and a fundraising dinner.  The Challenge really gets going the next day, however, with the 10, 40, 70, and 100 mile bicycle rides through the Beaverton and Hillsboro areas.  The event will also feature a 5k run/walk for those who want to be involved, but aren't cyclists.  Lance himself is scheduled to participate in the cycling portion, and the last time he rode in the Portland Challenge, he ended up riding the entire 100 mile circuit!

The Livestrong Challenge raises both money and awareness for the fight against cancer, and to participate in the cycling portion of the event, riders must cover a $50 registration fee, as well as raise a minimum of $250 dollars to help support the cause (Walkers and runners who take part in the 5k need only to pay the $50 registration fee).  The money is well worth it, however, as it goes to supporting programs across America from cancer research, to community support groups for cancer survivors.
