Portland Tops Hybrid List
Think Portland has more hybrid cars than other cities? Well, you're right. According to data compiled by hybridcars.com, in 2006 Portland ranked as the #1 major metropolitan area in the United States in per capita hybrid ownership. A whopping 11.19 households per 1,000 have hybrids registered to them. That's significantly higher than even the #2 metro area, San Francisco, that had 8.76 hybrids per one thousand households. Oregon, overall, ranked second in the nation for per capita hybrid ownership, with only California showing better numbers.

Even with these impressive statistics, Portland, along with the rest of the nation, still has a long way to go if any real change is going to be made in fuel consumption or air quality. And with the hybrid market growing both here and nationally, prospective car buyers will soon have no excuse for not considering hybrids when purchasing a new car.
