Multnomah County Advisory Committee

With the focus of cyclist and pedestrian input in the region mainly upon the City of Portland, some of the outlying areas of Multnomah County can often be ignored.  The Multnomah County Bicycle and Pedestrian Citizen Advisory Committee is where issues that concern the entire county can be discussed in an open forum.  The committee directly advises the Board of County Commissioners and the Transportation Division on the wide range of concerns that face cyclists and pedestrians on the huge system of roads that the county maintains.  That system includes major and minor roads in the towns of Wood Village, Troutdale, and Fairview, as well as in the unincorporated areas of Sauvie Island and the West Hills.  The committee also has jurisdiction over five of the bridges that span the Willamette River.

The committee is made up of members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, each of whom serve two year terms.  In the past the committee has been instrumental in the placement of signs that alert drivers to areas of high pedestrian and cyclist traffic, as well as offering crucial input on the county’s mass transit projects.

The advisory committee meetings are open to the public, and input from the community is welcome and encouraged.  The meetings are held regularly on the second Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, in room 112 of the Multnomah Building at 501 SW Hawthorne Blvd.
