Portland Mall Site Goes Live
TriMet unveiled its new Portland Mall Light Rail website today. Visit www.portlandmall.org for a comprehensive resource on the revamp of the Portland Bus Mall and the I-205 light rail extension. The projects which will be completed by 2009, include: construction of north/south light rail tracks on 5th and 6th Avenue; extension of the Yellow Line to PSU; construction of a new MAX Green Line, running from PSU to Union Station and onto Clackamas Town Center. Bus routes will be altered during the construction, which starts Jan. 14, 2007. Visit the site for a complete listing of modified routes.
While increasing accessibility to MAX, TriMet is also taking the opportunity to “revitalize 5th and 6th avenues with refurbished streets, sidewalks and intersections, along with new lighting, trees, art and street furniture.” The I-205/Portland Bus Mall project is part of TriMet’s larger Transportation Investment Plan, which is charged with the daunting task of planning for an estimated 1 million new Portlanders by 2030. Public meetings and open houses will be held throughout the process.
